This is a matter of cause and effect, i.e. does NEM directly prevent the
digestion of the yeast cells, OR does it impair the lysosomes fusion,
and THIS in turn prevents the acidification.
The results of the present experiment do not allow us to differentiate between these two mechanisms. However, data presented earlier (illustrated in the right panel) shows that acidification takes place prior to the yeast cells degradation (look at the observations at 3.5 min vs. 5 min post feeding). |
