Southern Blots - Pros and Cons

Southern blotting addresses questions that cannot  be easily answered by other methods for DNA analysis. This method is more suitable than PCR to analyse long stretches of DNA such as the multikilobase restriction fragments produced by some restriction enzymes, and It is cheaper than DNA sequencing.
Expression levels and expression profiles are better detected by methods analysing RNA or protein levels.
